CHENNAI: Kingfisher Airlines has withdrawn all its Flight Dispatchers from various bases, including Chennai, and centralised its flight dispatch operations in Mumbai.Since January 19, all its qualified flight dispatchers working in various parts of the country were transferred to Mumbai, leaving their job to an ‘Operations Officer’, who is merely an assistant who prints and hands over documents coming from Mumbai, to a pilot before flying. “Over the phone the flight dispatchers were warned of being sacked if they didn’t want to move to Mumbai,” a Kingfisher source in Mumbai said.Out of Chennai, Kingfisher operates around 30 flights daily and has night parking facility for six aircraft. According to the Civil Aviation Regulation (CAR), airlines should have appropriate flight dispatchers in all regions where they operate from and have night halts.“It is only a dispatcher who can determine the health of an aircraft and help the pilot fly safely with adequate documents. However, at present all our briefing packages come from Mumbai. The ‘operations officers’ merely print and hand the papers over to the pilots. If a MET folder has lapsed owing to delay or any other discrepancy, these officers update it locally, which is illegal as they are not certified to do so. According to DGCA norms, the operations officer is not a qualified flight dispatcher,” a Kingfisher source said here.Civil Aviation director general Dr Nazim Zaidi said he was not aware of Kingfisher’s centralised dispatch operations.Kingfisher spokesperson said the airlines carries out its flight dispatches in full compliance with the guidelines laid down by DGCA. “The present DGCA guidelines pertaining to flight dispatch are contained in CAR Section-7: flight crew standards; training & licencing; series ‘M’ PART II dated 28th July 1997,” he said. However, the section he cited pertains only to the training of a dispatcher and not how and where he should be positioned. When asked for a clarification, he said, “We confirm that Kingfisher Airlines has a sub-base at Chennai. Our Chennai sub-base is manned with adequate operations officers. We are therefore in compliance with this requirement. Nowhere does it say that a flight dispatcher needs to be available at a main or sub-base, unlike what has been specified and documented about the company doctors carrying out the pre-flight medical checks. So, your suggestion that Kingfisher is in violation of DGCA regulations is wrong and we deny this.”

Kingfisher flights chennai
New Delhi: India’s airlines are charting new routes to connect neglected, smaller cities that have some tourist or business potential, as the economy brightens and passenger numbers rise.
Kingfisher Airlines chennai , India’s second largest in marketing share, has started flights between Chennai and the in Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi and Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur recently.
Kingfisher has also received permission to start services to Kingfisher Uttarakhand’s Pantnagar from Kingfisher New Delhi flights. Pantnagar, besides being close to several tourist destinations, is also a hub for many factories, including that of auto manufacturer Tata Motors Ltd. Also on the cards are flights to the hosiery and garments hub of Ludhiana in Punjab from New Delhi.
Kingfisher Airlines Ltd and regional airline Jagson Airlines Ltd are among those planning to harness the potential of smaller airports.
“The bigger airlines have a focus on category I (metro) routes by default, but category II routes like smaller capital cities make a lot of sense,” said Jagson CEO Koustav M. Dhar.
